National #NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across National #NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. You can support and get to know your local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities through activities and events held across the country.
The National NAIDOC Poster competition has become an iconic feature of National NAIDOC Week and has a rich and significant history beginning in 1967 when the National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) first began producing posters. NAIDOC posters have been exhibited by various Australian cultural institutions such as the National Museum of Australia and reflect not only the many significant social changes that have occurred since 1967 but also evolution of art over the last 54 years.
Each year the National NAIDOC Week Poster Competition encourages Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists aged 13 years and over to submit their artwork which reflects that year's National NAIDOC Week Theme.
Ryhia Dank, a young Gudanji/Wakaja artist from the Northern Territory is the winner of the prestigious National NAIDOC poster competition for 2022 with her entry, Stronger.
“I created this piece after reading this year’s National NAIDOC Week theme – Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! I knew straight away I wanted to do a graphic piece centred around our flags with text highlighting what we have been through and are still fighting for” said Ryhia. “I feel that this piece being black and white allows us to focus on the details and messages in the artwork”

The amazing #partnerships at the Hub makes great t The amazing #partnerships at the Hub makes great things happen in #Miller.
Last week we were visited by Gandangara Land Council, Sydney Street Choir and Bills Crews Foundation at Miller Square. It was a great time spent with Miller Community at our fortnightly Community BBQ.
It was great to speak to Bill about Miller community needs and the support Bill Crew’s Foundation provides. While Bill was at The Hub a family recently arrived from Ukraine accessed The Hub requesting assistance. Bill contacted a staff from Bill Crew’s foundation that will also help provide support to the family.
We appreciate the partnership and collaboration that it takes to continue to support the communities we serve. #gratefulpartnerships

Over last weekend we had the opportunity to experi Over last weekend we had the opportunity to experience some stories on how the art classes came about after 2 years of lockdowns and uncertainty, we were finally able to host an art exhibition with the collation of artworks from our different art groups across our community centres.
Vince has been a great supporter of the arts and has helped many of our clients engage in a new found passion but also provide an opportunity for our seniors to connect with each other.
Emanuel shared his story on how he came to Vince's classes, he's story is one of many that resonate to the community and the importance of bringing together our isolated individuals to give them a creative outlet, but also enhance their community connections.
For our young creatives, some of our artistic children as young as 7 are able explore their creative pursuits - this provides them an opportunity to learn and also meet other children who are also enjoying their creative time.
Our creative drawing classes are available at Miller and Canley Heights, please contact (02) 9727 0477 or email info@corecs.org.au
