Today, CORE Community Services delivers vital services to Southwest Sydney, focusing on culturally and linguistically diverse communities, children, youth, families, people with disabilities, the elderly, and those facing financial hardship.
2015
CORE Community Services
The organisation restructured and rebranded as CORE Community Services, becoming a public company limited by guarantee and a registered charity with the ACNC. This change allowed it to expand services across Southwest Sydney. CORE stands for Care, Opportunity, Respect, and Empowerment, reflecting its values and mission.
1980
Cabramatta Community Centre
SEACA received its first grant to hire a part-time Coordinator. Over the next few years, it expanded, securing funding for various roles, including a social worker, bilingual welfare workers, a youth development officer, and a part-time community worker in Carramar.
1979
Early days
A group of volunteers formed a management committee and developed a constitution so they could apply for government funds. The group called itself the South-East Asian Community Assistance Centre (SEACA).
1978
Celebrating 40 years of service
COREs journey began in 1978 with Ulla Bartels, a volunteer at the Fairfield Neighbourhood Centre, who started offering English classes to Indo-Chinese refugees in Cabramatta. As the community s needs grew, the Carramar Activity Group provided additional support.
